Accra Mayor to make Sanitation Paramount.
….. Hon. Nii Adjei Sowah speaks at Adabraka Sallah Durbar.
The Mayor of Accra, Hon. Nii Adjei Sowah, emphasized in a speech he gave on Sunday in Adabraka; a suburb of Accra, during an event dubbed “ Sallah Durbar” also popularly called “Sallah Remix”, the need to ensure that Adabraka is kept clean and rid of filth at all times. He said that “Adabraka is at the centre of the business hub of Accra and so what affects Adabraka will also affect the entire Accra”. He added that Islam also teaches Muslims to be clean as cleanliness is next to godliness.
The Mayor of Accra also touched on education as a necessary tool in transforming the area. He said that “I am a Zongo boy, born and raised in the Zongo. I don’t believe Zongo people are dirty. The reason President Nana Akufo – Addo appointed me to be the Mayor of Accra is ‘education”. He said education is what separates the ordinary Zongo boy from the affluent residents of East Legon; not wealth. Therefore, he applauded the Zongo development fund initiative and advised that education be given a key role in its execution.
The event was attended by local chiefs and a large number of residents of the area. Excitement reached its peak as the horsemen rode to entertain the crowd with periodic gunshots signaling the peak of the event and the presence of some dignitaries.
Present at the event were Chief Kabir Kadir English – Greater Accra Hausa chief, Alhaji Dede – Galadimah/ organizer of the Zongo chiefs, Chief Abubakar Samori – Zongo Chief of Sowutuom, Chief Oba Abdusalam – Yoruba Chief of Kasoa, Chief Madah – Chief of Grushi, Mallam Alhassan – Imam of Adabraka, and other senior Adabraka members.
