The Pentecost University College are the champions of the HR Focus Business Challenge 2017. They competed against the University of Ghana Business School, Wisconsin International University College and University of Professional Studies Accra (UPSA) at the final stage of the competition to surmount all the schools as the ultimate winners today in Accra at the College for Physicians and Surgeons.
Pentecost University survived the preliminaries to make it to the final stage where they beat 3 other schools with 118 points to grab the number one position. The preliminaries included Radford University College, Presbyterian University College, University of Ghana Business School and Wisconsin International University College. At the finals, University of Ghana Business School took the 4th position, Wisconsin International University College settling for the 3rd position, and the defending champions at the second position. The HR Focus Business Challenge started in 2016 with UPSA emerging as overall winners. The initiative is part of the HR Focus Conference and Awards; a two day programme which ends on the 13th of October.
The public relations officer for the event, Ms Revina Acheampong, said that expanding the event to include more schools into forming a “national inter – tertiary school competition” was in their future plans. She said the event was different from other competitions as many competitions focused on prizes while this initiative seeks to develop the future leaders of corporate Ghana. She explained saying “we want to develop the entrepreneurial potential in them”. She added that “they should be interested in becoming problem solvers”. Ms Acheampong explained that the competition was carefully designed to make the participants think ‘on their feet’, therefore, the case study given to them to analyse, was not told them prior to the ‘on stage’ presentation. She added that the participants were required to brain storm, agree on a strategy, create a solution, and present it to the judges in front of a live audience. She stated that as part of the marking scheme, the judges will look out for teamwork, feasibility, presentation, originality, creativity among others.
Pentecost University College are the first private tertiary institutions to win the HR Focus Business Challenge.
