Samini Versus Sarkodie for the Vodafone ‘Artiste of the Decade’ 2019 Will be a Tie…….. Says Music Critics!

The two names that stand out of the noise being made as to who wins the ‘Vodafone Artiste of the Decade’ come this Saturday at the Accra International Conference Centre are Afropop Award winning Artiste ‘Samini’ and rap icon ‘Sarkodie’. With their significant contributions to the Ghanaian music industry over the ten year period, some critics believe that their ‘fight’ to win arguably the most respected award at the Vodafone Ghana Music Awards this year will result in a tie. Some of these critics believe that both ‘Samini’ and ‘Sarkodie’ have equally impacted the music society in Ghana and therefore each deserve the title.

With multiple awards and a string of hits, both ‘Samini’ and ‘Sarkodie’ have remained in the public eye for a while now. Sarkodie’s album, ‘The Highest’, has been one of the most reviewed rap albums in Ghana with good airplay among local radio stations. Samini’s ‘Untamed’ album has also received a good response from the public and both ‘Samini’ and ‘Sarkodie’ can still move crowds despite their long years in the music business. Last Saturday, people who attended the VGMA ‘Experience Concert’ were witnesses to what many might call ‘the never dying legends’ as both ‘Samini’ and ‘Sarkodie’ entertained the crowd with their hits. They both are significant forces to reckon with in the Ghanaian  music industry as they have groomed younger talents who are presently making names for themselves in Ghana. ‘Sark Nation’ and ‘Highgrade Family’ are two household names in Ghanaian music and all the credit can be given to these two men who have persisted over the years by improving upon their skills and influencing their immediate societies. It is for this reason that some music lovers believe that both artists equally deserve the ‘Artiste of the Decade’ award.

The first award for the ‘Artiste of the Decade’ was received by rapper OKyeame Kwame at a previous edition of the VGMA. This year’s VGMA will mark the 20th Anniversary of the awards scheme since it’s inception in 1999.
