The organizers of the All Africa Music Awards (AFRIMA) have announced the official opening of submissions for the 2019 edition of the awards scheme. The period within which artistes of African descent are to submit their songs or videos is from the 15th of May to the 2nd of August 2019. The announcement was made on Monday 13th of May at the African Union Headquarters in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia.
The All Africa Music Awards is the biggest musical event on the African continent with participation from numerous African artistes from all over the continent. The opening of submissions for nominations comes ahead of the main awards ceremony and other activities scheduled to take place in Accra, Ghana from 6th to 9th November this year. For a song or video to qualify for submission, it must have been released within the period of 1st August 2018 to 2nd August 2019. The awards comprises 36 categories each with a 23.9 carat gold plated trophy for the winner. The award extends to also Music producers, record label owners and other stakeholders of the music industry.
Last year, the event was held in Accra, Ghana as part of winning a 3 year hosting bid. AFRIMA celebrations in Accra drew a huge following especially the AFRIMA music village. The outdoor event which was held prior to the main awards ceremony at the Independence Square, saw the likes of PSquare, Stonebwoy, Nasty C, Olu Maintain and other acts from other parts of the continent entertain one of the largest crowds ever seen at the venue with popular songs and energetic displays. The event was organized in partnership with the Ministry of Tourism, Culture and Creative Arts of Ghana.
