With the likes of actress Yvonne Nelson and Jackie Appiah, one may not pay much attention to rising actress Salma Mumin; especially in an awards category like ‘Best Actress in a Lead Role’. But, the actress who played a tomboy in the movie ‘Away Bus’ may have impressed more than just the board of the Ghana Movie Awards. Known as a gentle and soft talking person, Salma transformed into a totally opposite person when she played a tomboy character in the movie ‘Away Bus’. From permed hair and well done manicure, Salma took on a role with dreadlocks, shorts and a ghetto personality. But, even the actress wasn’t sure if that was enough to win her one of the most coveted awards of the night. “I am surprised I won this award; I had 2 nominations and the ‘Best Actress in a Lead Role’ was the least I expected. I was actually on my way home when I heard my name. But, thank you everybody, thank you so much Ghana Movie Awards, thank you my fans, Kofi Anamoah for believing in me so much and for giving me that role”, she said.
Salma Mumin also received the award for the ‘Lead Actress in a Comedy TV Series’ at the Ghana Movie Awards 2019 . The movie ‘Away Bus’ also won 3 awards including the award for ‘Achievement in Editing’ and ‘Best Performance by an Actor in a Supporting Role’ by Kofi Adu also known as Agya Koo.
