This year’s edition of Ghana’s largest music awards scheme, the ‘Vodafone Ghana Music Awards’ was yesterday launched at the Labadi Beach Hotel in Accra. The Chief Executive Officer of Charterhouse, organizers of the Vodafone Ghana Music Awards, Theresa Ayoade, stated that there was a 15 to 20% increase in the number entries for nominations as compared to the previous edition and thanked both direct stakeholders and the public for their continuous support. She added that in the spirit of achieving maximum public participation, online voting has been added to expand the voting platform. This means that both non –Vodafone users or Ghanaians non – resident in Ghana would have the opportunity to vote for their favorite artistes. As part of the evening, 28 categories comprising nominees for this year’s event was revealed. The Vodafone Ghana Music Awards is under the theme ‘Music First’ and is scheduled to come off at the Grand Arena in Accra on May 2nd 2020.
Speaking at the official launch and unveiling of the nominees for the Vodafone Ghana Music Awards 2020, the Chief Executive Officer of Charterhouse Theresa Ayoade, said that public response to the Vodafone Ghana Music Awards (V.G.M.A) has been very positive. She added that steps had also been taken to maximize public participation by expanding the voting platform for the event. “We received over 750 entries which indicated a 15 to 20% increase in the total number of entries submitted this year. The V.G.M.A Board spent the last 30 days, categorizing and shortlisting the entries based on verifications of the year of release, ownership, commitment to willingly participate, and most importantly, scrutiny of content. This year, we are happy to announce the expansion of the voting platform for the V.G.M.A, in order to involve as many people as possible, by including a web based voting platform which allows only one free vote per person for each category”, she said.
The Consumer Business Unit Director of Vodafone Ghana Pushpinder Gujral, said that Vodafone Ghana was proud to be associated with the Vodafone Ghana Music Awards and is committed to supporting the growth of music in Ghana. “It gives us great pleasure to be part of Ghana’s biggest music platform which continues to celebrate the hard work of the musicians in this country. The Vodafone Ghana Music Awards is reaching remarkable heights and we are so happy that we are a partner and this history is being created. So, let’s set new standards and let the music play”, he said.
As usual, the Vodafone Ghana Music Awards will be preceded by activities to heighten the celebrations. Therefore, on Saturday April 4th 2020, the official Nominees Jam will hold in Koforidua in the Eastern Region of Ghana. Also, on Thursday April 30th 2020, the annual ‘Music Business Summit’; an event that seeks to discuss prospects in the music industry, will come off at the Swiss Spirit Hotel in Accra. The grand awards ceremony has been scheduled for the 2nd of May 2020 at the Grand Arena in Accra.
