After winning the Award for ‘Best Actress’ at the Kaduna International Film Festival in 2019 for her 2018 release ‘Black Sheep’, Ghanaian actress Rabby Bray is set to release another movie come April 4th 2020 at the Silverbird Cinemas in Accra and Kumasi. In an exclusive interview today with Shine Publications, actress Rabby Bray described the movie as a reality of life for many in Ghana. The movie also features actors Fiifi Coleman and Qwesi Blay.
‘Drops of Happiness’, a new movie by actress Rabby Bray, may cause some excitement in April. Like her last film ‘Black Sheep’, the audience were treated to a very unusual story line but highly dramatic with an impressive performance from Rabby Bray. According to the actress, her new film ‘Drops of Happiness’, is less of a psychological thriller and more of a dramatic thriller and was inspired by modern day challenges facing young people. “This movie talks about the reality of life for many in Ghana and Africa. My inspiration came from seeing a lot of brilliant university graduates depend on the formal sector for employment since that is the norm for our society; which is ‘go to school, finish with great grades and get a good job’, but in the end, they get disappointed”, she said.
Rabby Bray added that her main objective in producing this movie was to motivate the youth by erasing the perception of ‘good grades assuring one of a good job’ after school. “This movie is to sensitize the youth about the reality on the ground. Getting good grades and a good education does not guarantee a successful job, so one must think outside the box”, she said.
Drops of happiness talks about a young man ‘Nii Lantey’, played by Adjetey Anang, on a quest for survival after graduating with a 1st class university degree yet has no hope of getting employed . His urge to take care of his wife ‘Abena’ played by Rabby Bray, and his children, led him into making a series of mistakes out of desperation which eventually ended him in debt to a lot of people; including some powerful men. The story follows how the family goes through the ups and downs of life and the challenges they faced as a result of having a jobless ‘family head’.
The screenplay was developed by award winning writer Olumide Kuti and directed by Salifu Zakari. ‘Drops of Happiness’ is the first movie from Rabby Bray Productions this year. The actress also wrote the story with support from the Director Salifu Zakari and fellow actor and multiple award winning actor Adjetey Anang. The movie will be premiered simultaneously in Accra and Kumasi at the Silverbird Cinemas inside the Accra Mall and ‘Watch and Dine’ restaurant respectively.
