Multiple award winning Dancehall and Afropop musician ‘Shatta Wale’ has recently responded to mockery by some critics for being exempted from this year’s Vodafone Ghana Music Awards. In a video from his residence in Accra, he teased critics that though he was banned, they too have been banned by the Coronavirus lockdown. He described this as a payback from God.
After an unfortunate incident between Ghanaian musicians ‘Shatta Wale’ and ‘Stonebwoy’, at last year’s Vodafone Ghana Music Awards, the Board of the awards scheme decided to exclude both of them from this year’s nominations. A few days ago, Shatta Wale teased critics after some said he deserved the punishment. “When I was banned, a lot of people were happy, but right now, the Coronavirus has also banned everybody. The God I worship is not asleep and will perform miracles in 2020”, he said.
The Vodafone Ghana Music Awards is the largest and most patronized music awards scheme in Ghana. This year’s edition was initially scheduled for the month of May, but now has been postponed indefinitely due to the presence of the Coronavirus in Ghana.
