After indefinitely postponing the 3Music Awards in March due to the then growing fears of the spread of the deadly Coronavirus in Accra, the organizer of the 3Music Awards has finally announced the date for the first ever virtual edition of the annual music awards as May 2nd 2020. The event will be broadcasted live from a location in Accra and host quite a number of popular music acts during the ceremony.
For the first time since its inception in 2018, the 3Music Awards will have no physical audience but a virtual one. This arrangement was made in compliance with a national ban on all events with large attendance as a preventive measure to stop the spread of the deadly Coronavirus. A press statement issued detailed how the event will be organized. “The virtual event will come live from a location in Ghana’s capital, Accra, to audiences on Joy Prime, Facebook, YouTube, Twitter and Instagram as well as partner web platforms. The event will feature only three physical performance blocks while others will perform virtually. Originally scheduled for last month, organizers chose the option of holding it virtually due to Ghana’s ban on gatherings of more than 25 people, as well as social distancing measures”, the statement read.
Prior to the earlier postponement of the 3Music Awards, the scheme held a successful nominees announcement night which was followed by the 3Music Women’s Brunch; a programme which brought together celebrated female professionals in the Creative Arts and entertainment community. 3Music Awards will make history globally on May 2nd together with ‘Nickelodeon’s Kids Choice Awards’ as the first annual large capacity music awards to be hosted virtually without a physical audience. The event precedes other music awards in other parts of the world which are also going virtual in May such as ‘The Saskatchewan Country Music Awards’, APRA Music Awards in Australia and the 41st annual Blues Music Awards in the United States of America.
