On Friday 29th August 2020, the Chief Executive Officer of Vodafone Ghana Patricia Obo Nai, announced a special award labelled ‘Music For Development’ at the 21st edition of the annual Vodafone Ghana Music Awards in Accra. She said the award was to encourage and celebrate musicians in Ghana who were working to improve the conditions of their communities. She said this was in line with what the Vodafone brand stands for.
During the second day of the 2 day awards ceremony at the Grand Arena in Accra, the Chief Executive Officer of Vodafone Ghana Patricia Obo Nai, took to the stage to announce and explain the goal of the ‘Music For Development’ award. “Tonight , we are happy to introduce a new award. Vodafone is a brand of purpose and we are happy to support individuals who promote a green planet”, she said.
The award also described as ‘Vodagone Green’, was received by Afropop artiste and Azonto pioneer ‘Gasmilla’ who expressed his appreciation for the honor. The ‘Music For Development’ award was part of previous editions of the awards scheme and was sponsored by the World Bank. However, the award disappeared from recent editions for no particular reason stated by the organizing company.
