Fairway Supermarket, a local retail outlet and a subsidiary of Rafimex Ghana Limited, has donated items worth over Ghc 20,000 to the University of Ghana Hospital to help in the fight against the Coronavirus pandemic. The donation was officially received on Monday 24th August 2020 at the University of Ghana Hospital at legon by a team of Doctors and staff of the hospital. The Chief Executive Officer of Fairway Supermarket Maya El Dowi, in an earlier statement, said that the gesture was necessary. Management of the University Hospital commended the act and said that it was timely.
The Chief Executive Officer of Fairway Supermarket Maya El Dowi, explained why the University of Ghana Hospital must be supported; especially in these times. “The University of Ghana Hospital has been serving us for many years. Many students from degree to Masters level, including many residents of the area, have been cared for by this institution. Therefore, we deem it necessary that we support this establishment; especially in these times of the Covid – 19 pandemic”, she said.
The Chief Nursing Officer In Charge of University of Ghana Hospital Cynthia Onwona – Agyeman expressed her gratitude on behalf of the management of the hospital. “Thank you so much, this is overwhelming. On behalf of the Vice – Chancellor of the University of Ghana, our Director Dr. Frempong, management and the entire staff of the University of Ghana Hospital, we say a very big thank you”, she said.
Adding his voice in appreciating the kind gesture, the Director of the University of Ghana Hospital Dr Mark Frempong said that the donation was timely and would indeed help in the fight against the deadly Covid – 19 virus. ” Infact, this comes at the right time because the donated items are all a means of helping us overcome the Covid – 19 pandemic. Therefore, we assure you that these products will be put to excellent use. Also, we know that this is the beginning of a great relationship between Fairway Supermarket and the University of Ghana Health Services which we expect to grow in the coming years”, he said.
The items were presented on behalf of Fairway Supermarket by Abigail Ofosu Antwi. The items comprised protective clothing, goggles, face shields, sanitizers, liquid soaps and wipes.
