The 6th edition of the annual Golden Movie Awards Africa which came off at the Fantasy Dome in Accra, was far from a failure despite challenges that emerged as the date for the event drew closer, the organizing company NMJ Ghana, managed to pull off the event successfully with majority of their patrons excited. The Director of African Affairs of Golden Movie Awards Africa Wihelmina Adani Michaels, admitted facing some obstacles in this year’s organization of the event, but that didn’t affect the excitement that developed as the show progressed into the night. The Golden Movie Awards Africa is a meritorious annual film awards scheme that recognizes films that project African values and echo excellence from the African continent.
This year’s edition of the Golden Movie Awards Africa (G.M.A.A) experienced some unusual happenings such as date and venue changes after public announcements had already been made. But, the patrons of the event did not disappoint as they gathered at the Fantasy Dome to celebrate hardworking stakeholders in the African film industry. The Director of African Affairs Mimi Adani Michaels, in a humble appeal, said “Anyone who has been to previous editions of the Golden Movie Awards Africa, knows that there was something wrong this year”. She went on to thank the audience for their patience and support.
The event was still a star studded night as well known faces from the film industry graced the occasion in very colourful outfits. Some of the names present were Award winning actor Adjetey Anang, Salma Mumin, Akorfa Edjeani, Kalsum Sinare, filmmaker Veronica Quarshie among others. The co -host comedian Dkb, may have taken many minds off the challenges of event with his timely jokes and political satire. There were also nominees from Cameroon and other parts of Africa present at the event.
