Ghana’s most celebrated rap icon Sarkodie, surprised everyone when he announced the prices for tickets to this year’s Rapperholic Concert. The high prices for an artiste with mainly a youthful audience, was a sure way for a very poor attendance. But, this wasn’t the story on 25th December at the Grand Arena, as a significant number of fans rushed in to watch the multiple – award winning rapper perform some of his greatest hit songs.
It was an emotional night for Sarkodie as he entertained his fans at his annual concert ‘Rapperholic’. The tickets ranged from Ghc500 per head to special tables with assorted drinks and champagne at Ghc6000; which was different from previous editions. Nevertheless, a significant number of people were seated both at the VVIP area and the VIP stand. The rapper was so glad that he could not hide his joy by thanking the fans for their show of loyalty to him. “Thank you all for coming out to support me…. I pray you all make it safely out of 2020”, he said.
Earlier on, the rapper stated that due to the presence of Covid – 19 in Ghana, this year’s edition wouldn’t be the as usual. This suggested the reason for the high ticket pricing which may have been to reduce the number of people attending the event; as a way of observing ‘social distancing’.
Sarkodie is currently the most consistent rap artiste in Ghana with hit songs and mass appeal. He was recently crowned the ‘Artiste of the Decade’ at Ghana’s biggest and most respected music awards scheme at the ‘Vodafone Ghana Music Awards’. His brand as a role model continues to grow with endorsement deals from both local and multi – national companies.
