Rising singing sensation ‘Gyakie’, has earned a nomination for ‘Highlife Music Video of the Year’ at this year’s 4syte Music Video Awards. The young musician’s category has been described as the ‘group of death’ for emerging talents; as this particular category boasts of Highlife greats each with a significant following. Names like multiple award winning musician Kofi Kinaata, King Promise, Kuami Eugene, and others dominate the media reportage for this group. But, fans of singer Gyakie’ remain optimistic and have expressed this on social media a few days to the awards night on Friday 28th May in Accra.
‘Walking among Giants’ is the phrase best to describe the situation upcoming musician ‘Gyakie’ has found herself in at this year’s 4syte Music Video Awards. With names like KiDi, Kofi Kinaata, King Promise, Sista Afia, and the reigning Artiste of the Year at the annual Ghana Music Awards ‘Kuami Eugene’, singer ‘Gyakie’ might not stand a chance at winning the Highlife Music video of the year. But, some of her fans on social media remain optimistic even in the face of great competition. “Gyakie’ is forever. We love you just the way you are”, a fan commented on Facebook.
Another excited fan caught the attention of others in a very inspiring comment. “It’s been barely a year since you officially announced yourself as a professional musician and you are already getting nominations at major award shows? Girl, you have a bright future”, the post read.
Gyakie is not the only underdog in the category for Highlife Music video of the year. Other names that might be considered not as big as the likes of Kofi Kinaata and the others, are singer Sefa of Black Muzik record label and Kofi Jamar of ‘Kumerica’ fame. Among the nomination for Highlife Music Video of the Year are ‘Big Tune of the Year’ and ‘Best Female’.
Earlier this year, Gyakie won an award for the ‘Emerging Woman of the Year’ at the 3Music Awards. She has also picked up some nominations at the annual Vodafone Ghana Music Awards.
