At 9pm (GMT) on Saturday, lovers of music from West Africa will have the opportunity to enjoy a professional mix of music genres from Ghana and Nigeria at the annual Vodafone Ghana Music Awards ‘Xperience Concert’. Despite the fact that the list of performers comprise only Ghanaian musicians, these musicians will perform songs from Afrobeats, Hip Hop, Highlife, Inspirational, Dancehall and other popular music genres from around the world. The V.G.M.A ‘Xperience Concert’, for a moment, takes music lovers away from the growing tension that builds towards the awards night based on anticipations by fans about who will win what, into a world of musical bliss and excitement.
This year, the V.G.M.A ‘Xperience Concert’ will be very different from previous editions as this will be the first time the event will be organized without its usual huge crowd. However, both the organizer ‘Charterhouse’ and the performers have assured the public of a good show come this Saturday live on Ghanaian tv station Tv3 and DSTV.
Apart from the ‘no audience’ factor, as usual, the V.G.M.A ‘Xperience Concert’ will host both already established musicians together with new but promising acts on the same stage; a major contribution to the continuity of music in Ghana. This year, viewers will see rising musicians Kweku Flick, Abianna, ‘Kahpun’ amongst top names in the Ghanaian music industry like Afropop artiste KelvynBoy, B.E.T Nominee Rapper Kwesi Arthur, Dancehall musician ‘Epixode’, singers Adina, Celestine Donkor, Kuami Eugene and more, perform in turns to a global audience via live broadcasts on social media and selected television channels. This will give extra and very significant exposure to these rising acts to an audience hungry for variety and good music.
The last V.G.M.A ‘Xperience Concert’ was held at the iconic Independence Square and had memorable performances from B.E.T Award Winner Sarkodie, Grammy Nominee ‘Stonebwoy’, multiple award winning musician ‘Shatta Wale’ among others. So far, the V.G.M.A ‘Xperience Concert’ has been the only annual musical platform in Ghana to consistently bring together top names from the Ghana Music Industry to celebrate music made in Ghana and at the same time, entertain huge crowds over long hours of non stop music.
And having witnessed this show during the days before the Coronavirus Crisis, I can only say that as the name implies, the V.G.M.A ‘Xperience Concert’ is a concert not to be told about, or missed, but to ‘Xperience’ yourself.
