On Saturday at the Grand Arena in Accra, selected Ghanaian musicians comprising nominees at the 22nd Vodafone Ghana Music Awards (V.G.M.A), displayed very entertaining performances to industry stakeholders and the press. The event, though a warmer to the grand awards night, had some much excitement that viewers via social media described it as the ‘final showdown’. After the first 2 acts had performed, the V.G.M.A ‘Xperience Concert’ had already began trending on social media platform ‘Twitter’ with over 1000 tweets. At the end of the event, many of the guests present had pleasant remarks about the show.
For the first time in the history of the Vodafone Ghana Music Awards (V.G.M.A) , the V.G.M.A ‘Xperience Concert’ was organized indoors with a drastically reduced audience compared to its usual crowd. However, comments from social media give evidence to a satisfactory show. “Adina made my day! Beautiful dance choreography”, a fan posted on Facebook. Another said, “Kuami Eugene is just unstoppable with hits upon hits! He will win the Artiste of the Year again; wait and see”. A comment from another fan which received quite some attention on Twitter read, “If this is what these guys can do at the prelims, then Ghana should get ready for the best of the best at the V.G.M.A”.
Indeed, the night was very entertaining with impressive singing by new comer Abianna, and some eye catching stage craft from Adina Thembi and rapper ‘Amerado’. Kwami Eugene and Epixode turned what was to be a virtual show into a concert as people in the auditorium danced to their songs and stood on the feet to applaud them.
The V.G.M.A ‘Xperience Concert’ has indeed set the ball rolling for follow up activities to the Grand Finale at the V.G.M.A main awards night. Prior to that, there will be a summit and a school seminar targeting music students with the aim of educating them on pursuing a professional career in music in Ghana.
