Yesterday, 25th June 2021 at the Grand Arena in Accra during the 22nd edition of the annual Vodafone Ghana Music Awards, many witnessed the 4th win for musician Kofi Kinaata as the ‘Song Writer of the Year’ for his song ‘Behind the Scenes’. This emphasizes the musician’s consistency in putting out relevant lyrics and the level of appreciation by the average Ghanaian. Kofi Kinaata expressed his joy by describing his achievement as a ‘record breaker’. The Vodafone Ghana Music Awards is an annual event that celebrates excellence in music made in Ghana.
Rap artiste Kofi Kinaata took to social media yesterday to celebrate his win at the Vodafone Ghana Music Awards. “Another one set. I set a record last year and I’ve broken my own record this year as the only Ghanaian artiste to win the V.G.M.A ‘Song Writer of the Year’ award four times”, he said.
The multiple award – winning musician went up against fellow heavyweights namely Diana Hamilton, Joe Mettle, Epixode, amongst others, to come out victorious on the night. Last year, Kofi kinaata’s song ‘Things Fall Apart’, which creatively and intelligently ridiculed the modern day hypocrisy which had engulfed the many churches in the country, received many praises as a musical masterpiece. Kofi Kinaata remains as part of Ghana’s lyrically gifted musicians and a prolific songwriter.
He won is first award for the ‘Sing Writer of the Year’ in 2016 for his song ‘Susuka’, and won it again with his single ‘Confessions’. He returned in 2020 with his highly acclaimed song ‘Things Fall Apart’ and won the award again given him a musical ‘hat trick’. Last night’s win made it four in total for Kofi Kinaata and solidifies his reign as currently Ghana’s Best Song Writer.
The ‘Song Writer of the Year’ award has been previously won by many great and extremely talented musicians namely Kojo Antwi in 2001 and 2003, Daasebre Dyamenah in 2002, Kwade3 in 2007, Okyeame Kwame in 2012, Akwoaboah in 2010 amongst others.
