After releasing a short film via YouTube about Cancer in October, Actress and Humanitarian Habiba Sinare has received two international film nominations for her film ‘ A Day Like October’. The two international film nominations were ‘Global Assembly on Everyday Life, Gender and Sexuality Film Competition’ and ‘Lift – Off Global Network – First – Time Filmmaker Sessions’. According to the Actress, these are a form of encouragement for her. She stated this in an online exclusive interview with Shine Publications.
Speaking to the Editor of Shine Publications, Actress Habiba Sinare explained why these nominations meant a lot to her. “Yes, I feel good because my work was recognized, and for it to be recognized, it means it was a good work done; this is also my first film on Cancer so I am happy”, she said.
‘A Day Like October’ is an under 8 minutes film and was produced by Actress Habiba Sinare and directed by Ghanaian filmmaker Joseph Clef Aboah. ‘A Day Like October’ creatively illustrates the feeling of worthlessness, the crave to be accepted as one with society with the birth of hope in the face of death. Habiba Sinare plays the role of a young lady who contemplates suicide after slipping into a world of loneliness due to Cancer; a contrast to her once glamorous and admirable life.
The short story employs rhetorical questions and other literary devices to communicate the dilemma many Cancer patients face. It was released on the 13th of October 2021 and is still available for free viewing on YouTube.
Over the weekend, Actress Habiba Sinare bagged another prestigious award for her acting skills as the ‘Actress of the Year’ at the Guinness sponsored ‘Africa Women’s Choice Awards’ in Accra. This year, the Actress has been one of the few active celebrities both professionally and in terms of community responsibility. Some weeks ago, the Actress single handedly organized a health walk as part of her Breast Cancer Awareness Campaign through her foundation ‘Mama Mariam Foundation’ which attracted a significant number of youth and high profiled personalities.
