The High Court in Accra has dismissed the appeal filed by Actress and Social Media personality Rosemond Brown with regards to her 90 days jail sentence. Therefore, the Actress will now continue to serve her sentence as punishment for publishing a nude photo of her and her son. Her Lawyer Andrew Kudzo Vortia, described the sentence as harsh and said it was contradictory to the purpose of the law which sought to protect the child in the first place. He stated this in an interview with Starr 103.5 FM today in Accra.
The Lawyer for Actress Rosemond Brown was quite disappointed as he spoke about the ruling. “It is very difficult situation for me now considering the High Court upholding the sentence imposed on the appellant. In both our addresses, both the prosecution and the Defence Attorney, we were almost unanimous that the sentence imposed on her was harsh. Because the son that the law seeks to protect… such a sanction is going to make life very difficult for the child in the absence of his mother. They have jelled together for a long time and this separation is going to cause the child more harm than good”, he explained.
He added that the legal team for Actress Rosemond Brown will not be pursuing any more appeals in future. “We don’t intend to go further to the court of appeal; we will just take it as the High Court has decided”, he explained.
Actress Rosemond Brown in June 2020, released a nude photo of her and her 7 year old son which sparked a wide spread debate and many reactions online.
