Celebrating Hon. Barbara Oteng – Gyasi on International Women’s Day

Whoever thought that one of the major turns in the Arts community in Ghana, the passing of the Creative Arts Bill, would have been made possible under the leadership of a woman?

On that day, hope rang out like a loud giant bell echoing through the country. We now have a legal backing for financial support from the Government of Ghana. And, this was because of the consistent efforts of Hon. Lawyer Barbara Oteng – Gyasi, the then Minister for Tourism, Arts and Culture.

Hon. Barbara Oteng – Gyasi can be said to have sacrificed her position as a Member of Parliament by according more time, effort and attention to the Tourism, Arts and Culture community; due to its then very fragile state. Though she lost her seat as a Member of Parliament, she gained respect for her milestone achievements as the Minister of Tourism, Arts and Culture with historical achievements such as the aforementioned, and also a ground breaking over $3 billion in revenue from the ‘Year of Return’ project.

Till this day, she still supports the Arts community by attending some related events. Hon. Barbara Oteng – Gyasi is one of the few Ghanaian women who are making other women proud of womanhood in the 21st century.

Therefore, we celebrate you as an unforgettable personality whose name is forever written in the books of the Tourism, Arts and entertainment community in Ghana. Ayekoo!
